Summer has arrived in Kansas! It is very warm. Stay cool. Remember your air conditioner should be set at 74Fo or higher.Especially on those days when it is in the 3 digits outside.  Otherwise the condenser  may “freeze” and we all have a huge problem! Should you have problems with your air conditioning please let us know asap.

Topeka , Manhattan and Lawrence all are having firework shows on the July4th . Just check the local news media for times and locations.

Enjoy all your freedoms. Have a very Happy 4th of July weekend. Be safe.

If you need wireless in your home away from home….just ask…

All our apartments and town homes come with high speed internet services but if what you really want is  wireless just ask. That can be arranged and ready on your arrival. We have become smarter also and are asking when reservations are first made.  There is an additional charge for this as it is a pass thru. We look forward to your next visit.

As we begin this holiday weekend we wish for all our visitors a safe and happy time as you visit with friends and family. Do take the time to remember all who have passed before and the many many contributions they made so that we could enjoy our freedoms.  To quote a colleague ….” We will never forget..those who gave before, not in search of glory, but to preserve a fragile peace..those who bravely  forge a path towards freedom.”

Enjoy the weekend . Please listen to weather reports  and know where you can take shelter from the weather.  Remember  a pair of  shoes for you if you need to take shelter from a storm.  We always run around in our bare feet.. After the storm passes and you come up out of the shelter you never know what has blown around. You get the picture…

How time just flies by especially between Thanksgiving and now.  We welcome those who have relocated to the area. Communities in the area host many special events at this time of the year.  Visit the the Chamber of Commerce websites for Topeka, Lawrence and Manhattan for lists of holiday special events.

Thanksgiving is  the perfect time to revisit the art of making homemade pies.  Those flaky,tender, and so very delicious pie crusts had become somewhat of an enigma to me. I have surrounded myself with experts in the field of pie making and have  many of their autographed cook books.  It is one thing to read the recipe and  another to get those great results that your mother or grandmother had!  So when Cook’s Illustrated featured Foolproof Pie Dough I thought…here I go again.  Well it worked!  The first attempt I measured exactly! the 2nd to 6th pie I was more relaxed you might say and all 6 pies were amazing. Crusts were so easy to roll out and transfer into the pan!
